The luxury of pedalling around Fuerteventura

The natural beauty of Fuerteventura and the warm climate that envelops the island throughout the year make it the prefect scenery to practise outdoor activities in an environment where nature acquires the maximum importance.

With an area of 1.659 km², it is the second largest island of the archipelago, after Tenerife. It is also the oldest of all the Canary Islands, therefore presenting a further erosion: the highest point is El Pico de la Zarza, in the Natural Park of Jandía, 807m high. In these circumstances, the landscape is mostly desert, arid, plain and there are large areas with no construction at all, kilometres and kilometres to get lost, very long roads and winding tracks of land scattered throughout the island.

Against this background cyclists, amateurs and professionals have found in Fuerteventura a first class scenario to train, walk or just discover a wonderful place in a natural and healthy way.

Bike routes

Fuerteventura has great areas to ride a mountain bike, both for those seeking to stroll and enjoy the amazing views and being in touch with nature, and for those who prefer challenging tracks with some difficulty. Road cyclists also find here an ideal place to improve and train for their races.

A wide network of bike lanes and bike paths runs through the island from north to south and from east to west, taking you near the best hidden nooks and treasures that are out of sight when travelling by car.

Some of the routes have a detailed record with their location, difficulty of the track, plans, profile, estimated duration and natural, cultural and historical features.

Tests for cyclists

Taking advantage of the climate and natural conditions provided by this island, Fuerteventura is increasingly becoming a setting for events and outdoor sports for all audiences. Some tests for cyclists have become events with wide acceptance and international projection, like Fudenas, which crosses the island from north to south on mountain bike, or Fuerteventura Classic, for road cyclists.

Maximum level training

Fuerteventura has two complexes –Playitas Resort in the south and Oasis Papagayo in the north- which have taken advantage of the excellent conditions of the island to offer high performance training to top-level professionals.

Not surprisingly elite teams and cyclists have chosen the island as the setting for their training and preparation for the season, as the Saxo Bank.

In short, bicycle enthusiasts find in the quiet Fuerteventura unbeatable geographical and weather conditions to practise their favourite sport or hobby. Pedalling around the island is simply a pleasure.
